Greenville, SC —This week Tyler Minard of Duncan, SC joined BigBlueHat for his 3 month internship. Tyler is a recent high school graduate with an interest in web development and computer networking. For the first several weeks, Tyler will be adding to his knowledge about HTTP, HTML, and other web technologies.

While at BigBlueHat Tyler will have the opportunity to work on the BlueInk Content Management System and several client projects. His work will include adding new features written in PHP, working with the front-end interface of BlueInk, and helping BigBlueHat migrate much of its code to the REST-based architectural style.

“It was good to find that Tyler already knew so much about HTTP and Web Technology,” said Benjamin Young, President of BigBlueHat. “The initial survey showed he’s very capable of getting involved with our projects quickly.”

Tyler’s internship will last for approximately three months, after which he’ll begin his first term at Spartanburg Community College. From there, he plans to transfer to the University of South Carolina Upstate where he will pursue a degree in the Information Technology field.

BigBlueHat is a web-manufacturing company that creates custom web sites and web-based software for clients around the world. Its chief product is the BlueInk CMS, a proprietary content management system that accommodates both the designer and the end user with an easy-to-use interface.

BlueInk CMS Demo Day!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Today’s the day! Brad and I will be demoing our newly improved BlueInk CMS at the GSATC’s Tech After 5 event tonight. We’ll be in the “Startup Zone” with a Mac and PC to show of BlueInk’s new interface and features.

We look forward to seeing you tonight.

BlueInk Demo Day Tomorrow (June 18th)

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Tomorrow the GSATC will be hosting their third Tech After 5 event in downtown Greenville, SC. BigBlueHat will be there with the newly redesigned, overhauled, and greatly improved BlueInk CMS.

People who use BlueInk regularly love it, but have often mentioned that it would be nice to see the web site while they were working on it, rather than switching back and forth between and administration area and the live web site. Well, as of BlueInk 2.0, you’ll see your site while you edit it!

BlueInk will now be a smallish bar across the top of your web site giving you access to your site’s pages and content. Below that, you’ll see your web site populated with your content. If you don’t like where a certain content item is, you can drag it to a new location within your design. No more black on white content previews. What you see (other than the buttons and such) will be exactly what you get. Pretty slick!

If you want to do more than read my glowing prose, please visit us at the GSATC’s Tech After 5 event tomorrow night. There’ll be plenty to see.

Firefox 3.0 available next Tuesday (June 17th)

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

If you’re not using Firefox yet, a new version (3.0) will be available next Tuesday (June 17th). Now’s your chance to switch to the world’s best browser. You can pledge to download the new version of Firefox and (hopefully) be a part of setting the world record for greatest number of people to download software in a single day.

If you’re gutsy, give the Firefox 3 Release Candidate a try. It’s faster and more user friendly than ever.

Google Maps Street View in Greenville, SC

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Well kids, it looks like Google drove by sometime in March and took pictures of our building (and probably yours)!

If you’ve not tried Google Maps Street View, you should. It’s something akin to playing a video game, but without the sound effects or plot line. Though, if you need more of a plot line, you can drive a car around Google Maps as well. You’ll have to plan your destination, though. Now imagine that proof of concept “game” with street view attached. Good stuff.

Google, Yahoo!, Apple, and Amazon continue to increase the value of web-based tools and very often provide robust tools for getting that data in and out of their systems. We have plans for integrating many of these services into BlueInk. For now, though, enjoy driving through Greenville (or Scotland for that matter) from your desk.
